Excited for Next Sunday!

Hello readers!

I hope you have had a nice weekend!

So I know it's been a week, but I am still somewhat on track with this resolution. A couple of days ago I recorded my first Vlog on YouTube. Pretty impressed with myself. I have always wanted to get into it, but just haven't. My first video was an introduction, I'm not sure what I am going to Vlog about. My guess is a bit of everything, some ranting, reviewing, day in the life sort of stuff. I guess the same as my blog :) I will post the link when I have added a few more videos.

So the point of this blog is going to be some hype for next Sunday (January 20th) - First off it is the weekend for the TABOO NAUGHTY BUT NICE SHOW in Vancouver.

I have attended the show before and it is a pretty good time. Lots to look at and if you are interested (at this point in my life I am not) there are seminars for things such as bondage, sex tips etc. If you are free this weekend I suggest looking into it. It starts Thursday the 17th and goes until Sunday the 20th. The hours are Thursday & Friday 5pm - 12am. Saturday 12pm - 12am and Sunday 12pm - 6pm. It is being held at the Vancouver Convention centre, which is very close to waterfront station. Like most trade shows - business, services, and other types of exhibitors have booths you can wander around and look/shop at. Last year we saw adult stores, a company that makes alcoholic whipped cream, a tattoo/piercing studio, and some kink displays of people in bondage (to name a few). As well as the booths there is a main stage Be sure to check the website for shows and their times. This year there will be dance performances, pole dance competitions, fashion shows and the event I am excited for (on the Sunday) is the Naughty But Nice Pinup Pageant. One of the hosts of the pin-up pageant is PIN UP PERFECTION Photography(They also have a booth at the show). A wonderful local company, run by Shimona Henry, that does amazing Photography. They specialize in Pin Up, Boudoir, Glamour, Alt/Fetish, Horror, check her website for the great work she does!

Anyways so the pageant should be a lot of fun, I have been to a few pin-up pageants in the past, and the hair/makeup/wardrobe is great.

So if you are free I would definitely suggest looking into the Taboo Naughty But Nice show. I believe tickets are $20.00 (Don't quote me) if you buy online you save $5.00. On Thursday they have a student night and on Friday they have a 2 for 1 ladies night. - I was lucky enough to win tickets from  WESTCOAST PIERCING AND INK

After the fun of the Taboo show, we will be going to THE BILTMORE CABARET - One of my favourite venues in Vancouver. Every Sunday they host KITTY NIGHTS A wonderful burlesque show full of amazing performances, amazing door/raffle prizes and they usually sell some very pretty pasties. A different theme/lineup happens every Sunday, but the 20th is their 5 year anniversary!! Super exciting and looks like a great evening.

If you are free for either or both of these events they should be a great time. Kitty nights is a steal for only $7.00 admission. That's less than a dollar per performer!

Hope you guys have a great week, and I should hopefully have a mid week Blog up :)

Toodles!

Front Street Antiquing

Happy Satunday!

Reason I used this hybrid word is because it is 11:30 but by the time I finish condensing my thoughts it will be well into the opening hours of Sunday.

I hope you readers are having a nice weekend. I am pretty impressed, second blog post of the week, right on track. Also not that I am making that kind of blog, Day 2 of better eating is a success. Go resolutions.

Anyways, enough of that. Today My Boyfriend and I went on a journey to Front street in New Westminster. It is also known as "Antique Alley" or "Antique Row". If you haven't had the chance to visit it I highly suggest going. There are a few stores that are specifically vintage/antique furniture and some that carry collectables, books, jewelry as well. There are about 6 stores on the strip and a very big salvation army a block away. Three of these are stores just specialize in furniture, but I will tell you about two of my favourites.

The first store is "Armstrong & Fitzgeralds" the address is 641 Front Street. This store carries an array of everything. Records, record players, sports memorabilia - including jerseys. Tiki furniture, glassware and artwork. A small selection of Vintage purses and jewelry (appear to be mostly costume jewelry). Movie posters, some framed pin-up pictures. Along with a selection of artwork, books, and other trinkets. But my favourite from this store has to be the furniture. They seem to carry a lot of 60's mod furniture, which I love. Specific pieces that jumped out at me today had to be a selection of coffee/side tables. One set, had a lovely burnt orange velvet base about 3ftX3ft at the bottom and tapered in at the top to about 2ftX2ft. The top of the base had a large scallop on each side so the top of the table appeared to be balanced on 4 small points. The top was a square piece of dark glass. The second set had two small side tables and a large dining table. The thing I loved about this set was the marble table top. The marble was clear with orange and white squares in it and an amazing amount of silver glitter. Definitely great.

The second is "Antique Alley Movie Props" the address is 605 Front Street. This one has to be my favourite in the area. This shop also rents out items for movie productions/plays. Again this store has a bit of everything. Quite a large Furniture selection, housewares, books, clocks, lighting fixtures, jewelry, old pictures, cameras and lenses, teacups and dishes, to name a few things you'll find. The last time we went we bought a few fun finds, a mermaid bottle opener, a flamingo cane and an old Krylon spray paint can. The prices are very fair at this store (the bottle opener set me back $12.00)

Around $6.00 - Vintage, hard to come by.

$12.00 and I love her, I would have paid way more than 12 in some other locations.

I love flamingos and I paid $45.00 for this awesome hand painted flamingo cane. When I eventually do a tattoo post, you will see what I mean when I say "I love flamingos".

Another store on Front street is "Westley Surplus", it is an army surplus store. Normally not my kind of store, but this one had some treasures. They had around 4 large display cases of vintage/antique items. Some household and some affiliated with war. An old morse code kit, a huge selection of old salt and pepper shakers, a Bozo (the clown) kazoo, and some really neat old egg cups. If you are in the area, I would definitely check it out.

My boyfriend and I are currently contractors/students so we can't afford to buy copious amounts of treasures, although we would love to! So today I just ended up buying this neat find at the salvation Army. These babies set me back $5.99 and I think they are beautiful!

All in all a lovely day of window shopping. It is officially 1am here in Vancouver, so happy Sunday!

Toodles.

New vision, new dreams.

Here I am. January 3rd 2013.

Hello and welcome, here it is a new year and like most of us out there it is resolution time. I am 3 days late, but what the heck it pays to be fashionably late.

So to start this blog (By the way I started this blog April 2010 with high hopes and here we are almost 3 years later) Regardless, I started this blog and after a 32 month hiatus or "writers block" I'm back.

So Resolution one: like most of us out there is to lose weight. ie: work out, eat better - so on and so forth.

Resolution B (I'm not really that idiotic, but it makes me laugh when they do it in crappy comedies): More Social sites under my belt.

To elaborate. I have been an internet fiend since I first logged onto the internet. It started out with games on Cartoon Network and countless hours on NeoPets. It then moved onto the teen stages - hours and hours on MSN Messenger, Forums, Chat rooms, Nexopia, Myspace... You see what I am getting at. I find I was caught in a rut just aimlessly looking at Facebook, mind numbing stuff. "10000000 likes and I'll eat a gopher wearing a glass eye", "Share if you love grandma, "like" if you want grandma to die in flames" and the ever so popular images surfing around of dis-formed and/or abused animals and children. I really only have Facebook for event purposes and to keep in touch/stalk a couple of people. I have almost 500 Facebook friends, yet I see/talk/hangout with/say hello to on the street to about 20 of these people. - So keeping with this social media resolution I have deleted around 40 randoms I either went to highschool with or random drunk encountered at one point or another.

So to continue with this rant, I want to occupy my internet time with more useful things. A few months ago I really got back into a twitter binge so that is one step. I recently signed up for a Pintrest account and have pinned a few items. I am (Hopefully) going to Blog twice -if not more- a week and I would like to start vlogging on YouTube. Another reason social media has become one of my resolutions is that once upon a time when I was about 16 I had a live journal. I recently found it and read every single post i had entered. Boy, was I depressed. Dear younger self; no bills, no rent, no job, high school, piece of cake cry baby. So I kind of want to leave a more positive digital footprint of myself.

WHO AM I?

So my name is Emma, 25 going on 26, I currently live in Vancouver, BC with my boyfriend and our cat.

WHAT AM I HERE FOR?

This blog - I am hoping will just be a modge-podge of anything and everything. I am really into the Rockabilly/pin-up/vintage vibe right now, so I'm sure that will come into play. Maybe some event/food reviews. Maybe some recipes, maybe some Outfit of the Days, maybe some pictures of my cat in clothing - the possibilities are endless.

So I know I am not starting this with a bagillizon followers? Fans? fellow blagonis? (I'm not sure what you want to be called) so if you are like me and you stumble across this blog and find yourself reading backwards to this MY FIRST POST feel free to comment and let me know what you want.

As I get my social thumbprint out there more I will share links with you.. Might even share that old live journal.

So here is my Twitter for now - follow my owlings! @emma_meow

toodles.
